Hidden Andy Goldworthy gems

Without paying attention some of the most incredible pieces of art I have seen in a long time may be missed all to easily. A friend showed my mum two of Andy Goldsworthy's pieces in the park, and then after visiting the Palace of the Arts, mum showed me.

The Spire Built in 2008 was Andys first piece in the park. Its celebrates the life cycle of the surrounding forest which still plays a huge part of the city of San Francisco. Reaching 90ft, the spire is constructed of 35 cypress trees. Over time the young tress growing at the base of the sculpture will obscure it from view, with the only way to experience it being up close.

The extremely difficult to photograph 'Wood Line' is located next to the Presidios oldest footpath, Lovers Lane. This pieces was built in 2010 out of eucalyptus trees of ranging dimension. Unlike the Spire this piece of art snakes its way down along the forest floor and is easily missed. In Andy's word this piece "draws the place".

Two very amazing natural sculptures if you are visiting the Presidio :-)
