Just before the holiday we had a one week workshop with Andrew Clancy from Clancy Moore Architects, he was visiting from Dublin, where he runs his own practice while being very involved in the University.
It was an interesting and challenging workshop, Andrew has this ability to mix the completely theoretical side of architecture, while actually running a practice that builds beautiful things. I often find in Architecture School that there are masters of one or the other, In theory this is how architecture should be made but to me I seldom see anyone do it so successfully.
We started with sketching a window. Any window. This then morphed into what ever you wanted it to be, whilst each day a new task and thought process was added. In the end we combined our models and created a street front. A huge lesson regarding design. You don't have to start with a good idea, just start. The idea will reveal itself... This, is easier said than done.
